Fused Glass

Always anxious to develop new and different techniques, Fran has started to experiment with fused glass. Glass is fused together in a kiln, using transparent and opaque glass melted to form beautiful layers in shapes and patterns mainly based on flowers and leaves. A great depth of design can be achieved in this manner. Once the piece has been fired and cooled, it is then slumped into or over a mold and fired at lower temperatures to form dishes and bowls. Simple coasters based on flowers were the first inspiration but, since then, Fran has experimented using enamels and fused glass together. Here, several layers of transparent glass are combined with glass confetti, powder and stringers to create exciting effects, including pendants, brooches & necklaces. A new idea for table tops, inspired by Fran's own garden outside her workshop, has matured into the production of fused glass mosaic tops for tables. Prices available on request.
